My daughter is a genius!
Correction – My OLDEST daughter is a genius! (She wanted me to let you know this was her idea.)
At least in my eyes she’s a genius because I have very few original ideas of my own. I borrow ideas very well but original ideas are few and far in between. She can think outside of the box whereas I’m the type of person who thinks outside of the box only if there is a hole in it that I can see through.
She’s always been our creative one. When she was young, she had two imaginary friends, Conan (pronounced Con nan) and Tanan (Tae nan). I didn’t mind her imaginary friends because for the most part, they behaved. If she wanted to argue with someone, she’d argue with them. It took a load off of me having those two around. I rarely got to/had to play with her. I don’t think I was creative enough for her in our make believe play so she opted to make up more interesting friends than her mamma. I don’t hold that against her. She’s a good girl!

Cooking with your kids is not always easy. Sometimes it’s just easiest to do it all yourself. I’m guilty of this ALL OF THE TIME. But I decided it was time my kids start to learn how to do some cooking and a little bit more than preheating the oven for the frozen pizza, boiling water for the Mac and Cheese or putting a Hot Pocket in the microwave.
About once or twice a month I will have posts relating to cooking with your kids. I have a 7, 12 and 15 year old so most recipes will be targeted towards those ages but that doesn’t mean we won’t be using recipes that even younger kids can help out with. A 3 year old can easily dump a cup of flour into a bowl whereas a 5 year old can measure it out for you. Keep in mind that all kids are different and where one 7 year old is capable of using a paring knife, the next 7 year old may not. So use your best judgment.

I was going to write an informative post on how salmon is so good for you but I got sidetracked yesterday.
See, we (as in the kids) got the day off from school because of icy roads. So this is how my day went.
2 hour school delay. No biggie.
Correct that – school cancelled. Still no biggie.
Made blueberry muffins for breakfast. Yum!
Read my emails, checked my blog and website. Everything is in working order.
Treadmill time while watching Ace of Cakes. Love that show!
Talked to my mom. Lucky duck won $50 in our Basketball Club raffle!
My daughter’s prom dress arrived via UPS. Had to have her try it on and oooh and aaah over her. She looks so pretty!
My neighbor needed some help. No problem, I love helping them. They pay back with food and beverages.

“Let’s go to the hop, Oh Baby. Let’s go to the hop.”
I have no idea who sings that song and I only know that line and now I’ve got it stuck in my head.
Our school’s Parents Group puts on a Sock Hop every year for the elementary students and their families. No matter what the weather is like outside, they always have a great turn out.
The kids get dressed up in 50’s clothing with poodle skirts and slicked back hair. There were some cool cats, greasers and big daddies all making the scene.

Malts were served and lots of dancing went on. This year they even had a Barbershop Quartet that added to the festivities. They were really good!
