Homemade All Purpose Seasoning and a SpiceStack Giveaway

Oh boy, oh boy!

I have a giveaway for you today.  I’m so excited because it FORCED me to clean out one of my cupboards, get it organized and I want to help you do that too.

Now I’m going to share some information with you today that I’m not real proud of.

As I was taking out ALL of my spices, I realized, I had three containers that I’m pretty sure I got as a bridal shower gift almost 21 years ago.  So, word to the wise, if your spices are older than your teenage children, it’s best to throw them out.  Don’t worry – they were WAY in the back so I haven’t used them since I moved into our home almost 9 years ago and doubtfuly used them before that.  But I can bet that I’ve bought new of these along the way.  I just didn’t know I had them because they were unseeable.  Is that a word?

Last spring when I was at the Housewares Show and I saw this product, I knew I was in dire need of it.

The kind people at YouCopia sent me a Chef’s Edition SpiceStack that holds 30 normal sized spice jars to review and they want me to give one lucky reader one too.  If you don’t have 30 spices or prefer a smaller SpiceStack, the folks at YouCopia can ship a SpiceStack sized to your needs. How’s that for service?  They also have cool coffee pod holders if you are a coffee pod addict.  You should check it out.  Just look at how it organized that mess.  LOVE it!

Each spot in the SpiceStack can hold a normal sized container or two small containers.  I also think it would work really well for you cookie decorators/accent hoarders.  Put all of your sanding sugar and non-pariel jars in the Chef’s Edition (or two of them), have them in one place and organize according to color. Perfect!!!

The recipe below is a seasoning mix that I make up all of the time and use on almost every type of meat we eat.  I love it on grilled chicken or pork ribs or mixed in my hamburgers or meatballs.  Make up a batch and shake a little on your next meal.

Now all you have to do to have a chance to win one of these super duper spice cupboard magic organizers from YouCopia is to leave a comment here telling me which cupboard in your kitchen could use organizing the most.   You know, your comments just make me feel better about my unorganized kitchen.  🙂

Contest runs from Tuesday, October 9 through Sunday, October 14.  I will pick a winner with and announce the name on Monday, October 15.

Ready, set, enter!

The giveaway is open to US residents. The winner will be chosen at random and contacted by email. The winner will have 48 hours to respond. A new winner will be selected at random should the first winner not respond.  This post has affiliate links.

Homemade All Purpose Seasoning

Prep Time: 5 minutes

3 Tablespoons Lawry’s Seasoned Salt
2 Tablespoons Black Pepper
2 Tablespoons Garlic Powder
2 Tablespoons Onion Powder

1. Put all ingredients into a small bowl.
2. Mix well.
3. Use normal amount in place of your other seasonings on chicken, pork, or beef. I like to use mine in hamburger, on ribs or grilled chicken tenderloins.
4. Store the Seasoning Mix in an airtight container. I put mine in an empty seasoning container so I can just shake it on like I would normal spices.

My spice shelf is horrible. I’m so tired of digging for a spice way in the back OR when you do, 3 more fall out 🙁 I’ll be measuring my cupboard tonight to see if I can find a product that will fit. Thanks!

Kendra I’m impressed that you only have 3 old containers. I will go through our spice area and will find 3 open containers of the same spice that were all opened in the past year.

If you have a good way to organize that muffin/cake pan/every other backing pan area I’m all ears. I hate going into the cabinet I’m not sure what is going to fall out when I need something out of there.

My spice shelf looks like yours did…all in on the shelf…I would love to have the spice organizer. I will be making the all purpose spice recipe…I am always grabbing those ingredients to season my meat. Thanks.

My spices are all over the kitchen. Some are frequently used and live on the counter. Others (like cinnamon) end up by the tea/cocoa/coffee because I use them together and thus put them away together. Some actually live over the oven together but always manage to fall on the stovetop when I open the cupboard (maybe due to house shaking from living by the highway, maybe because they are stacked to high, maybe both) I know I don’t use them to their full potential.. this SpiceStack looks AWESOME!! Thank you for your time 🙂

Um. Baking cupboard for sure. Jars of accents, boxes of food coloring, millions of cupcake liners, open bags of every kind of sugar, bags of candy melts and cookbooks galore…and probably much more, I just can’t find it.

I have organized my whole kitchen this week getting rid of the old and cleaning and what a coincidence. The only things I have left are the two worst and that is the spice cupboard and the large silverware drawer for serving spoons and spatula’s and such.

Does my whole kitchen count? LOL. I have way more stuff than space for it. I need all types of organizers!

My spice cupboard could definitely use some reorganizing. I have so many spices since I had a Wild Tree party and earned a ton of products, plus add my holiday decorations, and it is a mess! This product looks like just the perfect thing for me!

I definitely need to organize my spice cupboard. However, I have a two-tier corner turntable spice cupboard but they don’t all fit on there so there are bottles & bulk spices all around the edge of it, so I need to definitely organize that. I would consider moving my spice cupboard to a different one if I just happened to be the lucky winner.

I have a baking cupboard that has been stuffed for quite some time. It happens to be the upper corner cabinet so its big, but shaped funny. It has flour, sugars, nuts, oils, mixes, recipes, utencils, chocolate, spices, honey, jello molds, etc. I even have an overflow of some things in the pantry. I just need to go through and straighten it up a bit.

Since I have a pull-out spice cupboard already, this would come in handy for all of the containers of cookie decorations that are piled into a bin in my cupboard. The kids could help me organize it!!

My messy cupboard has got to be my snack cupboard. All the chip bags just get thrown in there. New bags are added, half eaten bags are pushed to the back….Aaargh!!

My spice cupboard is full of old olive and salsa jars with spices in them, stacked on one another. If I want to find something, I have to pull about half of them out to find what I want….frustrating to say the least.

Kendra~~I’ll bet my spice cupboard looks much worse than yours ever could. I’ll be crossing my fingers I’m the lucky winner! My drawer with colored sugar for my cookies is a mess too. Help.

    Kori — October 11, 2012 at 6:43 am

Definitely my spice cupboard. It looks a lot like yours actually minus the IGA nutmeg from 1991. Mine is a different brand from probably 2001! Would love to win this and if not, I now have a Christmas list started:)

    Angie — October 13, 2012 at 10:05 am

I would have to say my baking pan (muffin, cookie racks, bread, pie tins, etc.) cupboard needs the most help. I also have things fall on me every time I pull something out of that one. I love this spice rack, though, as it allows for more than just what fits stacked on something else along the sides and back of my cabinet (lots of wasted space in the middle but my husband insists we have to be able to see all the spices). It is organized but I don’t have all the spices I would like to have.

I’ve always tried to keep my cabinets neat and organized. I now have a newborn as well as a 3 year old at home plus I just want back to work full time. Anything that will make my life easier and help me keep my cabinets organized is greatly appreciated. Right now I don’t think I have a single cabinet that I could classify as organized!

We are moving into a new house that has TWO kitchens – one for me, and one for my husband’s BBQ prep. We are still trying to figure out where to put everything, but the SpiceStack would be a big help in both places!

Did you say which cupboard needs to be organized or organized the most? My spice cupboard leaves lots to be desired. Back in the day before we started to try new recipes and can our own salsa, our cupboard looked beautifully neat with the salt, pepper, and Lawrys all in its own space. Needless to say I need a major revamp now!! It is 100% my husbands fault for being such a great, messy, unorganized cook! Please help me, help him!

    Michelle — October 14, 2012 at 5:21 pm

Well, I could say the cupboard with coffee mugs, I could say the pantry, I could say my pots/pans cupboard, but for spices – I think I have you beat. I have three cupboard doors above my stove, all three are stockpiled. And yes, I know, I shouldn’t keep spices above all the heat and humidity but family traditions die hard. If I was to get a nice spice organizer I could probably keep them in my pantry though.

I need this cuz the only cabinet that is messy right now is my spice cabinet! My ocd needs a better way to organize than stacking & shuffling containers! Plus, maaaaaybe then I might cook more?

My corner cupboard is the worst – it’s where I keep spices and baking ingredients but it’s so deep that I can’t reach everything! I end up buying new items because I can’t see what’s in there.

I was very sick this year. In the hospital for 5 months & bed fr a few more. The first thing I was able to do was work on my spice drawer. I was buying spices in bulk before I got sock and there were lots of little baggies some were even
Labeled. It was start but with so many…..
