Kid Friendly Trail Mix
My kids started school on Tuesday.
Again this year we have one in elementary, middle and high school so the reactions to events are so interesting to me. I’m getting to see the different stages of growing up all at once.
Here are my after school conversations with all three kids.
After school conversation with our 3rd grade daughter –
Me – How was your day?
3rd grade daughter – Awesome! I’ve never had an assignment notebook before and I had PE and recess!
The joys of having an enthusiastic 3rd grader where she GETS to have an assignment notebook, snack and recess.
After school conversation with our 8th grade son –
Me – How was your day?
8th grade son – Alright. Mumble, mumble. Math was easy. Mumble, mumble. Only 40 questions and I got it done in class. Mumble, mumble.
Why do boys mumble? I just don’t get it! I was told by a friend who has a son that it can last another 7 years. The joys of having an 8th grade son. Mumble, mumble.
After school conversation with our 11th grade daughter –
Me – How was your day?
11th grade daughter – UGH, sigh, UGH, sigh! This semester is going to be so hard. UGH, sigh.
I will say that I would not want to trade places with her. She has Pre-Calc 1, AP English and Spanish 2 plus 2 other classes this semester. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to help her with her classes. The joys of having a high schooler. UGH, sigh.
Just where does the time go?
I remember my eldest’s first day of school and how scared she looked and how scared I was for her.
I remember my son’s first year of pre-K. I only let him go 2 days a week because I didn’t think he was ready yet.
And I remember my youngest watching out the window as the other two got on the bus and she just couldn’t wait to join them.
Someone please tell me where that time goes. Someday soon I’m going to miss that mumble, mumble, UGH, sigh.

Kid Friendly Trail Mix
Add whatever your kids will eat to this trail mix.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
• 5 cups pretzels
• 3 cups peanuts
• 2 cups raisins
• 1 cup M&Ms
Directions:
1. Pour all ingredients into a large bowl.
2. Gently mix everything together.
3. Put into individual snacks bags or store in an airtight container until ready to use.
I’m impressed. Mumbles are actually more than I get out of my (17 year old) son. Unless he wants something. Then he speaks very clearly.

🙂
Yes, where do those years go!!! Now how do you think your mother feels??? If you make a batch of this for the 15th I’m sure it will disappear!
Yes, Mom asks “where does/has the time go/gone” all the time! Enjoy each day – each one is precious!
Kendra,
This is so funny because my son (16-1/2) also mumbles, but then so does my husband! I think it’s a guy thing. And my 18 year old; first year in college, sounds like your daughter, Ugh, sigh. Glad to know most kids are the same 🙂 I make a very similar mix and everyone loves it so I KNOW this is delish! As far as where the time went? I have NO clue. I still remember kindergarten and even pre-school. And now one’s in college and the other almost out of High school, sigh.
Thanks so much for linking up last week to Creative Thursday. Can’t wait to see what you have for this week’s party! Have a great week.
