Yummy School Bus How To

Can you believe its back to school time?  Yup – me too!  I would have been ready for them to start this week but I’ll wait one more before I have to pry my teenagers out of bed about 3 hours earlier than they normally get up now.  Ah, the life of a teenager with no morning responsibilities.  It’s been a good summer but I’m ready for a “normal” routine again.

To celebrate the kiddos getting on the bus next week I found this super duper cute idea over at Kitchen Fun With My Three Sons.  Really – you need to check out her site.  Jill has the COOLEST ideas.  She makes dogs out of bread dough.  She makes Curious George cake pops.  And pancakes in any shape you can imagine.  Just cool stuff.

So when I saw these Twinkie School Busses I knew I had to try them.  Jill said they were easy and they are.  All you need is

  • Hostess Twinkies
  • Frosting – I used Betty Crocker white and tinted some brown but you can use chocolate as well
  • Brown M&Ms or whatever color your kids want to use
  • Red and White sequin sprinkles if you have them.
  1. Start by cutting out the windshield.  Make about a ¾” cut down the front from both sides.
  2. Cut that extra piece in half and use some white frosting to attach the “hood”.
  3. Then use the white frosting to make the windows on the sides and the windshield on the front of the bus.
  4. Use the brown frosting to make a line going around the side of the bus.  Once this is done, attach the M&M wheels with the brown frosting.
  5. Use the white frosting to attach white sequins sprinkle for the head lights or just use your white frosting to make the headlights and a red sequin for the stop sign.  I didn’t have red sequins but I did have a white daisy so I colored it in with my red food marker.

Use what you have on hand and let your kids decorate their own bus!

It really is that simple!  Thanks Jill for such a great, fun and simple idea to send the kids off to school with!
