Garlic and Herb Beer Dip for the Non Double Dipper

OK kids – we need to have a serious discussion today on Dip Etiquette.

How many of you double dip?

First – do you know what double dipping is?  If not, it’s when you take a cracker, chip, veggie, etc., fill it up with dip, take a bite and then take the rest of that same cracker, chip, veggie, etc. and dip again back into the bowl.  That’s double dipping.

My oldest daughter is the No Double Dip Enforcer.  If she catches you double dipping, just ask my niece what happens to you.  You get yelled at.  Poor thing didn’t know what double dipping was up until that point in her life.  I think she may be scarred for life now.

So – again – how many of you double dip?  What – that’s waaaay to many of you unless you have the whole bowl of dip to yourself – then all rules are thrown out the window you lucky duck!  Double dip away.

So for today’s discussion – we are going to assume you DO NOT have a whole bowl of dip to yourself.

Scenario – You are at a gathering with a large bowl of Garlic and Herb Beer Dip in front of you.  At first, you just want to taste it to see if it’s something you like so you grab a cracker and dip it into the bowl.  You take a bite and WOWZZA – it’s darn good stuff.  So you want more.

What is the correct answer on what you should do next?

a.   Dip that same cracker back into the bowl.

b.  Grab the whole bowl and run into the other room so you don’t have to share.

c.  Take a fresh cracker every time you want a bite.

d.  Put some on a plate along with some crackers and now you can double dip as many times as you like.

e.  Either c or d.

If you answered either a or b, I like your thinking, but the No Double Dip Enforcer would scold you like you’ve never been scolded before.

If you answered e – you are correct.  If you are going to eat straight out of the dip bowl, use a fresh cracker or veggie or chip every time so your germs don’t get into the dip and then spread throughout everyone else who is dipping into the bowl.  Or, the best thing to do is to take a spoonful and put it on a plate so you don’t have to share your portion.

Now that we have had this serious discussion – and I’m so glad we did – I have something really fun to tell you about.

Tonight I am having a Pizza Party at my house with some friends.  The people at Bay’s English Muffins were kind enough to send me some of their English Muffins to help promote their “Top This Pizza Challenge” going on right now.  My friends and I are going to have a cook off to see who can create the best pizza.  We will be posting our happenings throughout the night on my Facebook page starting about 7 pm CST.  On Monday, I will be giving you the full 411 and sharing at least one of the creations from the evening.  I can’t wait!

Garlic and Herb Beer Dip

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

• 8 ounce package of cream cheese, softened
• 1/4 cup sour cream
• 1 package (.75 ounces) Good Seasoning’s Garlic and Herb Salad Dressing and Recipe Mix
• 6 ounces shredded cheddar cheese
• 6 ounces of beer – any kind will do
• Fresh crushed parsley or dried parsley flakes

If you would like to make a non-alcoholic version, omit the beer and add another 1/4 cup of sour cream.

Directions:

1. With an electric mixer, cream together cream cheese, sour cream and Garlic and Herb Mix.
2. Add beer and mix well.
3. Add cheese and mix up.
4. Place in bowl and top with parsley.
5. Serve immediately or store covered in the fridge until serving time.

This is good served with a variety of crackers, chips and veggies.

To change the taste of the dip, use different types of beer. I used a light beer but a full bodied beer would add a nice flavor to it.

I’m assuming you’re talking about Morgan as the double-dipper. If so, she’s not scarred, since she continues to do it- just not at your house. My philosophy on double-dipping is that it’s ok only if members of your household are the only ones eating the dip/salsa at that time. Otherwise it’s a no-no.

Yes it was Miss Morgan – I doubt if she’ll ever double dip again while the Enforcer is around. 🙂

I’ll admit it… I double dip, BUT I always flip the carrot or crackers over to the non-bitten side before I do it.

You are a polite double dipper then. 🙂

Sorry, Kendra, but I didn’t see a or b in the answers! I saw 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Had to bring that to your attention!!! It reminded me of a priest once who for the response said we’re using “number b”. About double dipping – I don’t unless it’s just my husband and I eating it and then I’ll dip away!!! Can’t wait to see how the pizza party’s going!

OMG – I proofed this thing several times and looked right over that. On my Word copy it was correct but when I transfer it to my blog software, it “corrected” it for me. Thanks for pointing it out. Normally Kori catches all of my mistakes. Looks like I need several people to keep me on my toes. And if it’s just you and the hubby – dip away! Just don’t do it with the Enforcer around. 🙂

I thought afterwards I should have said I bet your mom noticed this! She commented she did notice it but was too polite to bring it to your attention. I really enjoy your blog – humor, recipes, pictures, everything. Keep up the good work!!!
