Heart Sandwich Cookies

Why is it that every stinkin’ time I go to the grocery store I get a cart with a bum wheel?  Why is that?

Oh, it’s because almost every cart in the store has a bum wheel.  So it’s not just me?  Thank goodness.

I have a theory about this and my theories are always unproven and sometimes just wild thoughts but after you hear this one, you might just agree with me.

You know how hard it is to push an empty cart with a bum wheel around the store.  Now put a whole bunch of food and drinks and a kid or two in that bum wheeled cart and you just got yourself a workout.

Maybe it’s the grocery industry’s way of helping us get in more exercise.   Do you think it’s possible?

I think every time I go to the store I wear off an extra 250 calories just by pushing a full load of groceries out to the car (in a bum wheeled cart).  So maybe instead of complaining about that cart I should go up the store manager and thank them instead for helping me achieve my daily workout.

Are bum wheeled carts a conspiracy to get us to work out more?  What do you think?

Now that I have you thinking I’m a total nut… I’m keeping it simple again with today’s sweet.  We’re making red heart sugar cookies with buttercream icing to make a cookie sandwich.

Start with your favorite roll out sugar cookie recipe.

Add some red gel paste color to it.

Mix it well and your sugar cookies will now be red.  (Careful, they may stain your hands and your counter so lay down some wax or parchment paper before you roll them out.)

Roll them out, cut out your hearts and bake according to your recipe.

Once cooled, turn one heart over, pipe (or spread) some buttercream icing on it and top with another heart.

See how easy that was.  No conspiracy here.

The bum wheel theory? Works double-time with grocery store supplied wheelchairs. It’s like Christmas when they get a batch of new ones (especially new electric ones! Wheeee!). But within 6 months, they are again all thump, thump, thumping with a bum wheel.
The heart cookie picture with the squiggle of buttercream, above on left? That’s great looking even without the top half! These look YUMMY!

That would be 100 times worse Sue because you have to sit in it and you feel every bump.
