Friday Find – Some of my Favorite Things
There are so many fun and exciting things online this time of year that distract me from getting my “real” work done. So I’ve made up my Favorite Things List so you too can be distracted with me. Don’t worry – you don’t have sound so you didn’t hear me break out into my rendition of Julie Andrews singing “These are a few of my favorite things…” I bet you are singing that song in your head now – sorry!
I have been looking for a fun way to display my holiday cards. Even though our cards are not even in the “photo is taken” stage yet this year, I love receiving them. And if people give you a hard time about your annual holiday letter – ignore them. I love reading what your family has been up to.
Now I know how much time and effort goes into taking and making and shipping out cards that I want to treat those precious pieces of photo paper properly. Next year – I promise they will be displayed nicely and not in my burlap bag because of this idea I found over at Celebrations At Home. She has several suggestions but my favorite is the old ladder which is from her Rustic Woodland Christmas setting. If rustic is your style, check out the other neat ideas she has. Anyone have an old ladder I can use?
Next is cookie decorating. I love looking at beautifully decorated cookies. Now I can decorate a pretty easy one, put nothing like these from the Sweet Adventures of Sugarbelle. So if your inner muse decides to show up, give these babies a try. These truly are too pretty to eat don’t you agree?
For the crafter in the house – These vellum printed candles are THE BEST!!! I love them. I first saw this on Craft Gossip where they referred me to Pinterest. (Such a cool site!) Simple instructions – just print a photo onto vellum paper and wrap around a clear candle holder. It doesn’t say how to attach the vellum to the holder but I would recommend just taping it on the back with double sided tape. Such a great idea for any time of the year!
Looking for a fun Christmas morning breakfast idea – try Rudolph Pancakes found over at Kitchen Fun With My Three Sons. Who wouldn’t want those on Christmas morning?
The Elf on the Shelf – Have you heard of this? It’s been around for a few years but it just caught my attention this year. My friend Amanda did this with her kids and I just think it would be so much fun no matter what ages your kids are! I can see my older kids getting into this too.
If you haven’t heard of the Elf on the Shelf the gist is this – you buy this little elf that you can name and every night he flies back to the North Pole to tell Santa what you’ve been up to that day. The next day when he/she arrives back at your house, the little elf is in a different spot. There are some creative photos online showing where their little elf ended up for the day and the ones below I found on Pinterest. You need to check it out. If nothing else, just for a quick laugh. They even have an animated TV show about it that was just on last week. My seven year old thought it was so cool but my bah humbug husband felt it was just another commercialized ploy to get you to buy something. He is totally correct! But still – bah humbug to you!

Just starting visiting Pinterest about a week ago and I’m completely addicted. Have seen Elf on Shelf a few times, but didn’t know the story, so thank you for that. I’m with you, love the idea – consumerism or not!
My favorite new Christmas idea is the Christmas tree made of ornaments and hung from the ceiling. Too intricate for me to do, but I think it is beautiful: http://pinterest.com/pin/81416705733234819/

Love that tree but that would be WAY too much for me to do. It sure would look cool in the right room though!
LOVE the ladder!!!! What a cool idea for cards. And, I’ve intentionally stayed away from pinterest, but I think I need to check it out! Elf on a Shelf is so cute and what a great idea! I’ve been following my friend Donna’s elf, Crisco, for a few years now and have enjoyed seeing what he’s up to every year! Merry Christmas Kendra!!!!! Wishing you and your family a blessed year!
